Which maps should I choose?
Excellent maps of Denmark are available, partly for planning your holiday and partly for using during the trip, and if you want to ride on the charming minor roads, a good map is indispensable!
The Cycling Holiday Map
Before starting your cycling holiday in Denmark, it is a good idea to get the Danish Cyclist Federations’s own general map on the scale of 1:510.000. The map is very suitable for planning the trip, as it contains much information in Danish, English and German.
On The Cycling Holiday Map, cycle lanes along highways, seperate cycle tracks and route suggestions are indicated as well as all ferry services, camp sites, youth hostels and rail routes that carry bicycles.
1:200.000
The National Survey and Cadastre roadmap on the scale of 1:200.000 can be bought as a handy map book and also as four map sheets divided into the following numbers and areas: 1. North Jutland, 2. Central Jutland, 3. South Jutland and Funen, 4. Sealand, Lolland-Falster and Bornholm. Both the map book and the map sheets are available from The Danish Cyclist Federation or in bookshops in most towns.
This map shows all main roads, highways and major secondary roads. Moreover a number of camp sites, youth hostels and attractions are indicated. The map is suitable, if you want to cycle on the asphalt roads.
1:100.000
The best map for cycling is the Ordnance Survey map by the National Survey and Cadastre to scale of 1:100.000. The whole of Denmark is covered by 33 loose map sheets, each bearing the name of a well-known locality in the area e.g. map no. 1513 Ringsted.
The maps give you a very detailed picture of the landscape, and elevations are shown by a 5-metre curve. Major roads are clearly distinguishable from secondary roads and all paths are indicated. Unfortunately cycle lanes and cycle tracks are not specially marked. All buildings down to each farm and house, excursion resorts, important streams and railways are also marked on the maps.
The maps on the scale of 1:100.000 can be obtained from bookshops in major town or from The Danish Cyclist Federation.
